INDIANAPOLIS -- A simple text could help keep kids from going hungry this summer while they don't have access to their school breakfast and lunches.

A local national nonprofit is helping connect families to free, healthy meals for kids and teens age 18 and under at thousands of summer meal sites across the country.

No Kid Hungry connects children and families to local organizations that provide healthy meals when school is out. Families can get information on those meals by texting “FOOD” to 877-877.

The hotline is run by the national nonprofit organization Share Our Strength. Volunteers will send a response asking for an address or zip code and will respond with the closest meal sites to that location.

Spanish speakers can text “COMIDA” to the same number for tips in Spanish.

There are also other ways to get information on the program, you can find them in the list below.
