Woman, 77, killed in 2-car crash

Police believe alcohol may be factor

INDIANAPOLIS - A woman was killed in a two-car crash early Wednesday morning, officials said.

The crash happened near Kentucky Avenue and West Raymond Street just after 2 a.m.

Witnesses told police that an SUV hit a minivan nearly head-on. The driver of the minivan was trapped inside and  was unconscious when authorities arrived.

The driver of the minivan, later identified as 77-year-old Peggy Ishmael, was taken to Eskenazi Health in critical condition. Officials said she later died from her injuries.

The driver of the SUV was being treated for less serious injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but officials said alcohol might have been a factor.
