VIGO COUNTY, Ind. - One person was killed in a four-car crash Thursday evening, officials said.
Indiana State Police troopers responded to the crash in the 8700 block of Wabash Avenue in eastern Vigo County just after 7 p.m.
Preliminary investigation revealed a medical episode may have caused Catherine Burk, 25, to lose control of her vehicle. She went off the road and overcorrected which caused her to hit another vehicle.
The impact caused the driver of the second car, 23-year-old Vance Smith, to then hit a third car driven by 51-year-old Karen Price.
Price’s vehicle was forced into the opposite lane where it was struck on the passenger side by a pickup truck driven by 46-year-old William Hastings.
Price was pronounced dead at the scene by the Vigo County Coroner’s Office, police said.
Hastings was taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for minor injuries, police said. Burk and Smith were not injured.
Police said the roads were only wet at the time of the crash and everyone was wearing seat belts. Police do not think drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
