SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. -- One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash on in Shelby County Friday evening.

The crash happened just after 7 p.m. near the intersection of C.R. 325 and S.R. 44.

Investigators say, Heather Poe, 26, was traveling eastbound when she braked hard to avoid slowing traffic ahead. Her car then skidded to the right and into oncoming traffic where it was struck by another vehicle.

Poe was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were treated for minor injuries and released.

Witnesses told police that a pair of cruising style motorcycles might have been attempting to overtake multiple vehicles just before the crash. Police believe that may have been why Poe had to break so quickly. Both motorcycles were driven by men and had a woman riding on the back.

Investigators are working to identify who those motorcyclists may have been. The crash remains under investigation by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information about the crash should call the Shelby County Sheriff at (317) 398-6661.
