INDIANAPOLIS -- Friends and family of Cecilia Land say she is one of the kindest, most caring people you will ever meet. That's why they say what happened to her Friday night has shocked them beyond words.
"Friday night I got a call from my sister, she was pretty upset. She couldn't really talk, but she said my mom had been shot," Annette Myers said.
The shooting happened Friday at a home along South Lynhurst. Police say Rebecca Lawson, 26, became enraged when she saw Land's car parked outside of 35-year-old Patrick Brown's home.
After an argument there, Lawson shot them both. Land was hit in the face. Her right eye is gone. Brown was killed.

"Shock. Sadness. A little bit of anger because of the situation," Myers said.
Myers was on vacation in Virginia at the time of the shooting. Her three younger sisters were all inside the home Friday, but were not hurt. All are now focused on helping their mother survive.
"We've been going through the alphabet and spelling things out for her, answering questions to make her feel better," Myers said.
The family is working to raise money to help cover medical expenses and eventually reconstructive surgery for their mom.
"My main concern is my mother and her health. That's the only thing I'm worried about. Down the road, though, we will be there to see justice be served," Myers said.
Land remains in critical condition. There is no word from doctors on when she might be able to go home.
