Man Charged With Beating Girlfriend's Son To Death

Police: 5-Year-Old Suffered Crushed Skull, Other Injuries

A North Vernon man was charged this week with beating to death his girlfriend's 5-year-old son.

Aaron Rohr, 34, was arrested Sunday morning, about four hours after Samuel Moore was taken to a North Vernon hospital with a crushed skull, a broken elbow and severe bruising, police said.

Moore was later taken to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, where he died Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators believe the boy was beaten inside Rohr's home, where he lived with his mother, the Jennings County Sheriff's Department said.

Doctors told police that the child's injuries were consistent with being thrown or slammed down, RTV6's Jennifer Carmack reported.

Investigators didn't know why the child was beaten, the sheriff's department said.

Rohr faces a charge of battery of a child, causing death. He was being held Wednesday with bond set at $250,000.

North Vernon is about 55 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
