A jury found Kevin Book guilty last month of murder and neglect in connection with the March 2006 death of Haylee Couch.

Prosecutors said Book, then 35, smothered Haylee at his southwest-side Indianapolis home because her crying upset him.

Police said the child and her mother were at Book's home that morning, and that the mother was asleep on a living room couch when Book woke her at about 4 a.m. to say Haylee wasn't breathing. The mother called 911, and Haylee was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy revealed that the child was smothered. Book was arrested two days after Haylee died.
