Police: Both Drivers Were Wearing Seat Belts

A man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a head-on crash in Lafayette on Thursday.The wreck happened just before 1 p.m. on Veteran's Memorial Parkway East near Tazer Drive.Timothy J. Brand Jr., 20, of Rossville, was driving southbound when he suddenly drove into oncoming traffic, police said.Leora Reeder, 58, of Lafayette, who was driving northbound, swerved into the emergency lane to avoid the collision, but the two vehicles struck head-on, police said.Brand and Reeder had to be extricated from their vehicles.Brand was taken to IU Health Arnett Hospital, where he later died.Reeder was taken to St. Elizabeth East Hospital with leg injuries.Both drivers were wearing seat belts, police said.Veteran's Memorial Parkway was closed for more than two hours during the investigation.
