A Beech Grove city councilman arrested in a prostitution sting is refusing to step down, the city's mayor said.
Paul David Mobley Jr., 62, faces a misdemeanor charge of patronizing a prostitute after he offered $20 for oral sex to an undercover officer in the 3000 block of East Washington Street on Tuesday morning, police said.
"I had a moment of weakness," the arresting officer said Mobley stated.
Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley told RTV6's Jack Rinehart
that he went to Mobley's house repeatedly in hopes of having a face-to-face conversation with him and to ask him to resign.
Buckley said he reached Mobley by phone Wednesday but that the councilman professed his innocence and said he's committed to fighting the charge.
"I told him, 'You have a wife and a son.' I said, 'Don't put them through this,'" Buckley said.
Mobley is a Democrat holding an at-large seat on the Beech Grove council.
