Mother, Boyfriend Charged In Toddler's Death

Police: 2-Year-Old Girl Died Of Blunt Force Trauma

A Frankfort couple faces murder charges in connection with the death of the woman's 2-year-old daughter.

Keaton Kuhlman died Thursday at Riley Hospital For Children from blunt force trauma after she was flown there from St. Vincent Frankfort Hospital that morning.

On Wednesday, the girl's mother, Patience A. Kuhlman, 29, and the woman's boyfriend, Mitchell A. Clendenning, 30, both pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and neglect of a dependent.

Clendenning told police that the girl fell down some stairs and wouldn't wake up the next morning, but doctors said her injuries were inconsistent with a fall. The girl also had a history of bruises, which had been explained by falls in the past, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Clendenning, who was not the girl's father, told police he was intoxicated the night that the injuries took place. Witnesses also told police they heard yelling coming from the home.
