Mothers Accused Of Leaving Kids Alone For Bar Trip

Two Arrested On Neglect Charges

Two Indianapolis women were arrested this week on accusations that they left their children in their homes at night and went to an area bar.

Felicia Jeffries

Police said someone called them to 8250 Spyglass Drive about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday to check on a boy who was standing outside and screaming for his mother.

A Marion County sheriff's deputy found the 9-year-old boy and his 2-year-old sister alone at the home, according to the sheriff's department.

The boy indicated that his mother, Felicia Jeffries, sometimes spent time next door, so the deputy checked that address and found three more children -- ages 11, 9 and 5 -- home alone, the sheriff's department said.

Sonya Hood

About an hour after the deputy arrived, Jeffries and mother of the three next-door children, Sonya Hood, came home, police said.

Jeffries, 30, and Hood, 32, had gone to a bar, according to the sheriff's department. Both were arrested on charges of neglect of a dependent.
