One of three people arrested after a burglary early Monday morning at Ivy Tech is an employee of the school, police said.

Lawrence police were called to the Ivy Tech facility in the 9300 block of East 59th Street about 2 a.m. Monday.

When they arrived, officers said they found a car leaving the loading dock area of the building.

During a traffic stop, police said they saw a duffel bag full of laptop computers in the car. When questioned, the men first told investigators that a grandfather of one of the men at a nearby retirement home had given them the computers for his birthday and that they were picking them up.

When questioned later in the morning, the men admitted stealing the computers from the school's bookstore, police said.

Byron Harris, an employee of the school at the bookstore, told police that he left a window open, giving the men access to the computers inside, investigators said.

Harris, 20, Aaron Steiner, 19, and Thomas Nikkolas, 21, were arrested on charges of theft and receiving stolen property. All three are expected to face felony burglary charges.

Tablets and computers that belonged to the school were recovered. They are valued at $4,100.
