A motorist was chasing a vehicle containing his ex-fiancee and another man around Interstate 465 Tuesday evening when a man in the vehicle being chased fired several shots, striking the chaser at least once in the leg, police said.

The wounded man continued his pursuit on I-465 and called police on a cell phone, authorities said. Police stopped the two southbound vehicles on the city's west side, near the Airport Expressway, at about 7:30 p.m.

The man who was shot was taken to Methodist Hospital for treatment; his wound was not believed to be life-threatening. Traffic was halted at the point where the cars were pulled over while police investigated.

Police identified the shooter as Shane Heady, 23. He faces charges of aggravated battery and criminal recklessness. The woman involved was not hurt.

Police said they saw five bullet holes in the chaser's vehicle.

Authorities said the chase began on I-465 on the city's east side near Pendleton Pike when the man who would start the pursuit saw his ex-fiancee and the other man in the same car. The vehicles went around I-465's northern arc until police stopped them near the Airport Expressway.
