An Indianapolis man forced a 10-year-old boy to have sex with his own mother, part of several allegations that led to 27 child sex-related charges filed against him.
Mark McCoy, 41, appeared in court for a hearing on Tuesday. He was charged with felony counts of child molesting, attempted child molesting, vicarious sexual gratification, intimidation and criminal confinement, RTV6's Derrik Thomas
Police became aware of McCoy because of an investigation in Daviess County that involved the possession of child pornography.
"I think it's sick," said a woman who identified herself as McCoy's aunt. "I love my nephew. Until he's proven guilty, he's my nephew. If he's found guilty, I don't want no part of him."
Police said the crimes occurred in a house on Farnsworth Street that is now vacant.
Court documents indicated that McCoy forced his girlfriend's 10-year-old son to have sex with his mother and that two more boys of similar age were held at gunpoint and forced to have sexual contact with her, too.
Investigators said McCoy told one of the boys that he would kill him if he told anyone.
"At this point, I think my client maintains his innocence," said Kirsten Ess, a public defender assigned to McCoy. "It's difficult for me to say right now. I'm still waiting for discovery from the state. Until I get that discovery, I'm not sure how complicated it's going to be yet."
Neighbors who used to live near McCoy are convinced he should stay behind bars.
"There's no room in society for people like that, and they can't be reformed," said neighbor Belinda Bond.
McCoy was held Tuesday in the Marion County Jail on $50,000 bond. He declined RTV6's request for an interview.
