Police: Man Responsible For Fatal Hit-And-Run

Officers Arrest Man Days After Fatal Crash

A man was arrested Monday on a charge of reckless homicide following a hit-and-run crash last week that claimed a woman's life.

Police said Ty Watts, 46, of Kokomo, was behind the wheel of a truck that struck Karen Hamilton, 51, in the 1900 block of Vaile Avenue on June 27.

Officials said that Watts admitted hitting Hamilton as officers waited to obtain a search warrant for his vehicle.

Police said Hamilton was riding her bike at about 10:30 p.m. when Watts' truck hit her from behind. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition to the reckless homicide charge, Watts was also charged with marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they think alcohol was a factor in the crash.
