Police said they were looking for a man who shot an Indianapolis airport officer in the leg during a traffic stop early Wednesday.
Airport Officer Mike Moore was shot at about 3 a.m. by the driver of a station wagon he had pulled over near Westbrook Avenue and Washington Street, more than two miles northeast of Indianapolis International Airport, police said.
Police said Moore returned fire and might have hit the shooter, who fled.
Moore was treated at Wishard Memorial Hospital and released.
Two passengers in the station wagon were detained, questioned and then released. A third passenger fled, but police found her Wednesday afternoon. Information on whether she faces charges, why Moore pulled over the station wagon and what prompted the shooting wasn't immediately available.
Authorities said they believe they know who the gunman is, but they did not release a name.
Police said Moore was away from the airport because he had been called to help Marion County sheriff's deputies with a domestic disturbance call.
An airport spokesman said airport officers have full police powers and are called a few times each week to provide backup for other law enforcement agencies.
