Candidate apologizes after pics appear on sex website

Mayoral candidate says he did nothing unlawful

CHICAGO - A candidate for mayor of a western Chicago suburb is apologizing to his wife and supporters after photos of him appeared on an Internet sex site.

John Heidelmeier is running for mayor of Villa Park.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that in an emailed statement, the former police chief vows to remain "steadfast in the race." The election is April 9.

He acknowledges that embarrassing photos of him surfaced on the Internet. But he says he did nothing unlawful or anything that would diminish his ability to serve as mayor.

One of the photographs shows a man exposing himself. They appear on a website promising "your most diverse phone sex experience."

Heidelmeier's name and a link to his campaign's Facebook page appear alongside the photos.
