Former Indiana Governor Joe Kernan calls Donald Trump "unfit to be president" in a new television ad.

The ad, which isn't airing in Indiana, features Kernan saying what Trump said about military POWs is a "disgrace."

Kernan, who retired from the U.S. Navy before becoming mayor of South Bend, was shot down during the Vietnam War and spent 11 months in a POW camp. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Purple Hearts and the Navy Commendation Medal for his service.

Trump received criticism during the Republican primary for comments he made about Arizona Senator John McCain, who was held for years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

"I like people who weren't captured," Trump said.

The ad was paid for Priorities USA Action, a pro-Hillary Clinton political action committee.
