BROOKVILLE, Ind. - The auditor of a southeastern Indiana county has resigned after other officials called on her to quit because of frequent long absences from her office.
The Franklin County clerk said Auditor Erica Hudson submitted a resignation letter on Wednesday.
Hudson had resisted calls for her resignation since September but told the Connersville News-Examiner (http://bit.ly/1203cM7 ) that she changed her mind because of health problems.
The county commissioners and the county's Republican chairman wanted Hudson to step down over a prolonged absence that resulted in a $4,000 fine from the Internal Revenue Service for not providing the correct paperwork with a county payroll tax deduction payment.
A Republican Party caucus will select Hudson's replacement in the rural county along the Indiana-Ohio state line.
