WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Conservative columnist and commentator George Will is no longer a Republican, and he says Donald Trump is the reason.

During a Friday speech to the Federalist Society in Washington, Will told the crowd "this is not my party."  In an interview with conservative online outlet PJ Media after the speech, Will said he had changed his party registration in his home state of Maryland from Republican to 'unaffiliated', and he urged conservatives to not support Trump's presidential campaign this year.  “Make sure he loses. Grit their teeth for four years and win the White House,” was Will's advice to GOP voters.

Will is a Pulitzer Prize winning columnist and was a longtime panelist on ABC's "This Week" before joining Fox News Channel as a contributor.  He has long been critical of Trump, and he previously had urged Republicans to not donate to Trump's campaign. Trump referred to Will as a "major loser" during an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" last month.
