INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana’s opioid treatment program is expanding into areas of the state that are currently in urgent need.

Governor Eric Holcomb announced Wednesday that Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration’s drug treatment program will be opening five new facilities in Allen, Johnson, Monroe, Vigo and Tippecanoe Counties.

“This is how we are going to attack this problem. We are going to put people first. Even those who are surrounded by darkness,” said Gov. Holcomb.

Since 2000, Gov. Holcomb said drug overdose deaths in the United States have increased more than 500 percent and Indiana ranks 15th in the nation.

“The drug crisis is affecting everyone – families, businesses, communities. It impacts all socio-economic classes,” said Gov. Holcomb.

Holcomb said the new treatment centers will bring people closer to treatment and help them get back to leading productive lives.
