INDIANAPOLIS -- Democrat John Gregg named State Rep. Christina Hale as his running mate in the governor's race at a press conference on Wednesday.
Gregg cited Hale's record of bipartisan accomplishment, working with the GOP majority on various bills.
"I wanted to pick someone who was ready to lead on day one," said Gregg.
Hale says she didn't think she would get the call from Gregg to join the ticket.

Hale, a Democrat, has represented Indiana House District 87 on the northeast side of Indianapolis since 2013.
Hale has authored or supported a number of legislative efforts to address sexual assault in Indiana, including HB 1091, which would have increased the statute of limitations for rape to 10 years.
The former Kiwanis International executive was considered a possible candidate for the Democrats to replace U.S. Senator Dan Coats, but said last year she would instead run for re-election for the Indiana House of Representatives.
In an interview with Indianapolis This Week earlier this month, Gregg spoke about what he was looking for in a running mate:
“I’m going to look for someone that is concerned about the economy. Someone that wants to be inclusive. Someone that wants to work with our State Superintendent of Public Instruction, our school teachers, with the business community. Someone that wants to see the state go forward, and someone that’s inclusive, brings people together, and I think that’s important. Someone that can govern. Someone that can lead. Someone that understands the business community.”
