HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. -- A candidate for Hamilton County Council was charged Thursday with criminal mischief after some of his opponent's campaign signs disappeared.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's office began investigating after some of Rick McKinney's signs vanished back in April,

Deputies say a cell phone owned by McKinney's opponent, Jeffrey Hern, was found near the left over rope from one of the signs.

Hern told deputies that his cell phone was missing.

McKinney filed a stolen property report with the sheriff's office.
