INDIANAPOLIS -- Vice President Mike Pence, often the subject of many protests, performed his own walkout at Sunday's Indianapolis Colts game.

Pence left Sunday's Colts game early after several members of the San Francisco 49ers kneeled during the national anthem. After he left, Pence released a statement, saying the game disrespected "our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem."

Pence himself was the reason for a walkout in May. He was giving a commencement speech at Notre Dame when about 150 students and family members left.

Some of the students who left cited Pence's policies as Indiana's governor, such as his 2015 religious freedom law.

During the speech, he defended Notre Dame, instead focusing on unnamed other colleges that "suppress freedom of speech," according to Pence.

“While this institution has maintained an atmosphere of civility and open debate, far too many campuses across America have become characterized by speech codes, safe zones, tone policing, administration-sanctioned political correctness — all of which amounts to nothing less than suppression of the freedom of speech,” Pence said.

In his speech, Pence also said intolerance of opposing views is "destructive of learning."

In November, Pence was booed while walking into a New York theater to see "Hamilton." He defended those who booed him, saying, "That's what freedom sounds like."

Members of the cast also stood together after the performance, telling Pence they're concerned about the Trump administration.

President Trump responded on Twitter, saying "The theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!"

Pence's views about the right to protest had been consistent until Sunday when his intolerance of an opposing view became too much to sit through.
