INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana lawmakers worked with volunteers on Wednesday to construct a Habitat for Humanity house on the statehouse grounds.

The group assembled the wall panels on the statehouse lawn before they were moved to the home site near Eli Lilly headquarters. The three bedroom, two bathroom home will eventually go to a single mother in Indianapolis.

Legislators raised more than $50,000 for the project which was the first of its kind at the Indiana Statehouse.

“It’s a great project,” said Rep. Brian Bosma (R-Speaker of the House). “We’ve had great sponsors from Lilly to Walmart and many in between. We’re thrilled for [the mother] but moreso we’re thrilled for the 5,200 homes Habitat has built in the last 30 years.”
