INDIANAPOLIS -- A new Monmouth University poll shows Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Evan Bayh in good position as Election Day nears – and the Indiana governor's race in a dead heat.
The poll, compiled from answers from more than 400 Hoosier voters, shows Trump leading Hillary Clinton by 10 percent when asked about who is better able to handle the threat of terrorism, and by 12 percent in terms of who would be best for the economy.

On the flip side, both Trump and Clinton were viewed more unfavorably than favorably, although Trump, at 54 percent unfavorable, was less disliked than Clinton, at 62 percent unfavorable.

In the U.S. Senate Race, where former senator and governor Democrat Evan Bayh is facing off against Republican Congressman Todd Young, the poll shows Bayh with a 7-point lead, 48-to-41, over Young.

In the race for the governor's mansion, the Monmouth University poll placed Republican Eric Holcomb and Democrat John Gregg in a dead heat. The poll also showed incumbent Gov. Mike Pence's job approval rating back up over 50 percent for the first time in months – a boon to Holcomb, who has tied his candidacy to Pence's record as governor.
With no clear leader in the governor's race, both sides were quick to frame the poll's results to their advantage, with Indiana Republican Party Chairman Jeff Caldwell saying the poll "proves that Hoosiers haven't forgotten John Gregg's failed legacy from his time as Speaker."

Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody also released a statement about the poll, saying Pence, Holcomb and Hoosier Republicans "have placed their ideological agenda before anything else for far too long."

According to the poll, about 13 percent of Hoosier voters remain undecided – leaving both Holcomb and Gregg plenty of room to grow before November.
