Republican Ted Cruz has suspended his campaign following a loss to rival Donald Trump in Indiana's primary Tuesday night.

Cruz made the announcement in Indianapolis, joined by his mother, his wife Heidi and running mate Carly Fiorina.
Before Cruz took the stage, Fiorina said their fight would live on.
"We came together to save the soul of our party and the character and future of our nation," Fiorina said.
Cruz then took the stage, once again retelling the story of his immigrant family before announcing he would suspend his campaign:
"I said I would continue on if there was a viable path to victory. Tonight, I'm sorry to say, it appears that path has been foreclosed. We left it all on the field, Indiana. We gave it all we got. But voters chose another path. And so for the good of the long-term future of our country, we are suspending our campaign.
But I am not suspending our family. I am not suspending the fight to defend the Constitution. To defend our Judeo-Christian values in America. Our movement continues."
Cruz's decision to drop out comes after seven consecutive primary losses to Trump. The Texas senator had spent the last two weeks campaigning heavily in Indiana, hoping it would be the state to break Trump's momentum.

Indiana Democrats were quick to seize on Cruz's defeat to claim he was a victim of the "Mike Pence Effect." Pence endorsed Cruz, but said he would vote for whoever the eventual Republican nominee was.
