INDIANAPOLIS - Many Indiana lawmakers are just trying to figure out how the Statehouse operates as they prepare for the legislative session to start in January.

Twenty-five people sworn into office this week will be freshmen in the 100-member House. They combine with 18 members returning for their second terms to give the House 43 representatives with two years or less in legislative experience.

New Republican Rep. Dennis Zent of Angola tells The Journal Gazette that he likes the Legislature having new people with fresh ideas.

The last few legislative sessions have featured tough partisan fights over issues such as the right-to-work law and private school vouchers.

Freshman Democrat Justin Moed of Indianapolis tells The Indianapolis Star many of the new members have talked about regular coffee or dinner gatherings.
