ZIONSVILLE, Ind. -- Mike Pence thanked his friends, family and supporters in his first speech back in Indiana after he was officially named Donald Trump's running mate Saturday.

"Having spent some time with the next president of the United States, Donald Trump is a good man and he will make a great president of this nation," Pence said.

Pence said the welcoming he recived in Zionsville is the best part of the last few days.

"Karen and I will cherish this Hoosier homecoming for the rest of our lives," he said. "Thank you for being here today."

Pence showed a human side at the rally, asking people to pray for his family and telling his mother that she's his hero.

The program was delayed more than an hour, but got started just after 6 p.m.
