Federal inspectors have announced the recall of about 6,600 pounds of ham from a western Michigan meat processor because of a lack of safety checks.

The meat was produced by Byron Center Wholesale Meats in Kent County's Byron Township, near Grand Rapids.

MLive.com says that there are no reported illnesses. It says the recall is taking place because the producer lacked a safety plan for preventing Listeria contamination.

Authorities say inspectors saw workers cutting up whole hams labeled as "fully-cooked" despite the fact that the company lacks a plan for fully cooked product.

The recalled products are marked "Est. 2592" inside the U.S. Department of Agriculture inspection mark. They were produced before Thursday and were distributed in Michigan and Indiana.
