Property Tax Bills Hit Mailboxes In Marion County

Catch-Up Bills Sent

Marion County homeowners will see property tax catch-up bills in their mailboxes as soon as Tuesday.

As 6News first reported on the Capitol WatchBlog last week, bills were mailed starting Monday.

Officials in the Marion County Treasurer's Office declined to discuss the issue Monday, but have scheduled a news conference for Tuesday morning.

The catch-up bills represent the difference between the reduced amount homeowners paid last year and the final amount they owe following the reassessment ordered by Gov. Mitch Daniels.

As part of the property tax reform plan, homeowners' bills will be capped at 2 percent of a home's assessed value in 2008. That cap changes to 1.5 percent in 2009 and, finally, 1 percent in 2010.
