Prosecutor's Spokesman Suspected Of OWI

Mario Massillamany Drove On Wrong Side Of Road, Police Say

Mario Massillamany, spokesman for the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of drunken driving.

Massillamany, who has been communications director for Prosecutor Carl Brizzi for about five years, was arrested at about 2 a.m. at 116th Street and Arbor Glen Boulevard, 6News' Tanya Spencer reported.

According to a probable cause affidavit from the Fishers Police Department, Massillamany was going 71 mph in a 40 mph zone, driving in the wrong lane and failed a field sobriety test.

The report said Massillamany's breath smelled of alcohol and that his speech was slurred and repetitive.

Massillamany refused to take a Breathalyzer test, but a search warrant was issued for a blood draw to determine the level of blood-alcohol content.

"Obviously, we're very saddened and very disappointed," Brizzi said. "He is suspended because of the arrest, and if formal charges are brought, which I expect they will … he will be terminated."

Massillamany was held at the Hamilton County Jail Saturday on $2,500 bond. He was expected to be released on Saturday night.
