A reporter and author from Boston who spent a week in Indianapolis covering Super Bowl XLVI hopes the identity of an 11-year-old girl whose card greeted him in his hotel room can be identified so he can send her an autographed copy of his new book.Kevin Walsh, author of "Follow the Dog Home" and a sports reporter for New England Cable News, was delighted by a welcome card self-portrait colored by Breanna that was part of his welcome packet as he checked into his room at the Fairfield Inn earlier this month.Walsh, a father of two girls, said he was awed by Hoosier hospitality, though he was already familiar with it as a graduate of Purdue University. Before the Super Bowl, Walsh hadn't been in Indiana since 1993, RTV6's Stacia Matthews reported."It's tough to be on the road sometimes, because at the end of the day, after we do our work, which is great fun, we go back to a very lonely hotel room," Walsh said. "To have a nice little welcome card with zoo animals drawn on it just really reminded me of home, because we have a lot of stuff like this in my house on my refrigerator."Walsh contacted the Super Bowl Host Committee in hopes that Breanna, who is from Indianapolis, could be identified, but more than 36,000 children across the state drew cards as part of the Super Bowl effort, and there is no easy way to identify the child."We did not track ... whether it was somebody being home-schooled or a church group, or an after-school group," said Dianna Boyce, who was director of communications for the committee. "People just sent us the cards."Walsh said he called every Indianapolis Public Schools elementary school, the public library, the Indianapolis Zoo and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.Despite an army of volunteers, Breanna still hasn't been identified, but the possibilities have been narrowed a bit."We're getting closer. It's been a few weeks already," Walsh said. "We haven't found her yet, but I'm pretty sure we will in the end."Walsh said he thought Breanna would enjoy his book about animals, co-authored by his 10-year-old daughter, who would like to become pen pals with Breanna.Walsh's other daughter is working on a gift basket for the Hoosier artist that includes treats from New England.
