Hoosiers looking to catch a wave can now hang 10 without ever leaving Indiana.A simulated surfing ride called the FlowRider will open later this month at the Monon Community Center Waterpark in Carmel.Surfing experience isn't required, and classes will be available for those who want to dominate the waves."You'll get some individual time with instructors and learn some basic tricks, basically, how to ride," said Eric Mehl, the facility's aquatics manager. "It's $30 for the week so get some good time to kind of experiment."The ride surface is like a trampoline, so riders bounce if they fall, and the sides are padded for extra protection. The FlowRider will open, along with the park's other outdoor pools and attractions, on May 26.It's the first of its kind in Indiana.
