Charges expected for Colo. murder suspect who was convicted of molestation in Indiana

CANON CITY, Colo. - A sex offender from Indiana who’s accused of killing a woman and two of her children in southern Colorado is due back in court.

Prosecutors are expected to announce charges against Jaacob Vanwinkle during Thursday's hearing in Canon City now that they've been able to review evidence in the case.

Vanwinkle is also accused of sexually assaulting the woman's teenage daughter. She escaped the home and survived.

Authorities say Vanwinkle and the mother had dated and he was living with the family.

Vanwinkle was convicted in Indiana of child molestation and other sex crimes involving girls as young as 5 and 7 in 2004. He failed to register as a sex offender after moving to Canon City and authorities were pursuing him because of that before he was arrested in the killings.
