RIDGE MANOR, Fla. -- Mosquitos are always a problem during certain times of the year if you live in Florida but Hurricane Irma has made the problem even worse.

The mosquito control agency in Hernando County posted several photos on Tuesday of a massive pile of mosquitos they say were killed by one trap in just 16 hours.

The agency said the trap was set up from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m., and usually, they will catch about 500 mosquitoes. However, on this occasion, they caught about 26,000, including 10 different species.

The agency said some of those species were capable of transmitting diseases.

"These extra trapping efforts are giving us the info we need (active species) to best address the severe outbreaks we've been experiencing since the storm event," the agency posted on their Facebook page. "The daily heat we've been having should help shorten the lifespan of the mosquitoes that have been terrorizing residents throughout the county."
