DENVER -

A mother was charged with bringing a gun to a Denver middle school and menacing students.

The Denver District Attorney's office said that Monica Avila, 34, allegedly confronted several students in the school's parking lot last week and pulled out a handgun during the argument.

She was arrested nearby a short time later.

Avila said that her daughter was being bullied at the middle school.

Avila was charged with four counts of felony menacing and one felony count of possession of a weapon on school grounds.
