Woman Gets 10-Year Sentence In Daughter's Beating Death

Woman Pleaded Guilty To Child Neglect

A central Indiana woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for her role in the beating death of her 2-year-old daughter.

A Clinton County judge on Monday ordered the sentence for Patience Kuhlman, 31, of Frankfort. She pleaded guilty to felony charges of child neglect in connection with the July 2009 death of Keaton Kuhlman.

Mitchell Clendenning, 32, was sentenced in May to 35 years in prison in the death of his girlfriend's daughter. Doctors found the girl had massive head injuries and blunt-force injuries to her chest and buttocks.

Deputy prosecutor Larry Sells told the Journal & Courier that Clendenning was more to blame for the death, but Kuhlman put her daughter at risk because Clendenning was a drug and alcohol addict.

Clendenning was not the girl's father. He and Kuhlman had told investigators the child's injuries resulted from falling down stairs.
