A worker at an Indianapolis facility for youth with mental disabilities was chasing a teenage resident when both were struck by a car Thursday night, police said.

A 35-year-old staff member was running after a 16-year-old girl who left the Damar Home at 6067 Decatur Blvd. without permission when the crash happened just after 9 p.m., said Sgt. Paul Thompson.

Both victims were transported to Wishard Hospital in critical condition. They were both upgraded to serious but stable condition late Thursday night.

The 32-year-old driver of the vehicle involved was not seriously injured.

Damar Services Inc. is a residential facility for children and teens with developmental disabilities.
