Family members told 6News that Maria Benitez-Acateo, 25, is now out of a coma and responding to relatives following the Oct. 11 crash.

Benitez-Acateo delivered a healthy baby boy by emergency cesarean section hours after she was struck and dragged in her neighborhood near the intersection of Maryland Street and Elder Avenue.

Jody Lee, 38, turned himself in to police several days later and was charged with operating a motor vehicle after his license had been forfeited for life and failure to stop after an accident resulting in serious bodily injury.

Benitez-Acateo was listed in stable condition on Tuesday. Doctors said she will need more skull and facial surgeries.
