89-Year-Old Man Pulled From Vehicle

A wrong-way driver was killed in a fiery wreck along Interstate 465 in Indianapolis on Thursday night, police said.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. near Shadeland Avenue and 56th Street.

Police said Robert Alford Brown, 89, of Noblesville, was driving northbound in the southbound lanes without his headlights on when he hit an oncoming SUV head-on.

Brown's car burst into flames. The driver of the SUV, Kimberly Lewis, 49, of Franklin, and a truck driver pulled Brown from the wreckage.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene. Lewis was not seriously injured.

The ramp on Shadeland Avenue to I-465 was shut down for about two hours after the crash.
