ANDERSON, Ind. -- Police on Wednesday arrested a man in connection with the brutal beating of his girlfriend and their 3-month-old daughter.

Officials said Keith Richardson Jr., 27, of Anderson faces charges of aggravated battery and could face additional charges after the Tuesday incident.

Police said Richardson's girlfriend was struck in the face, causing contusions, and that the daughter suffered more serious injuries, including a fractured skull, ruptured spleen and broken ribs.

The baby was treated at an Anderson hospital, but was later taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Her condition was not immediately known.

The girlfriend told police that the violence began after Richardson arrived home early Tuesday morning after a night of drinking. The woman said a fight began and escalated when she told him that she wanted him to move out.

The woman said Richardson pushed her down, stood over her and threatened her with a knife before beating her and the baby as she held the baby in her arms.

Police said Richardson could face additional charges, including intimidation and criminal confinement.
