Rick Hightower joined the 6News team as a reporter/anchor in February 2007.

Before that he was corporate communications manager for the former Indianapolis-based ATA Airlines. In that role, Hightower was responsible for coordinating interviews and press information with the local, national and international media on issues relating to the airline industry and ATA. He was also responsible for writing internal employee communications and maintaining stories on the employee Web site.

Hightower joined Indianapolis' WISH-TV as a news reporter/anchor in December of 1993, and was weekend morning anchor there for six of those years. Prior to working at channel 8, he worked as an anchor and reporter at TV stations KTVB-TV, (NBC) Boise, Idaho; WBKO-TV, (ABC) Bowling Green, Ky.; and KIFI-TV, (NBC) Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Although Hightower has worked in a variety of cities, he is a Hoosier, born and raised in Indy. He was an active student at George Washington High School (IPS), where he lettered in basketball and baseball and played football. He was president of the student council and one of the first students in the schools history to compete in broadcast news at debate competitions. He was also a member of the "Continentalaires" swing choir, and he attended Hoosier Boys State.

After graduating from Washington he attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism with an extra major skill in World History. Hightower has received several broadcast awards including the Broadcaster of the Year Award from the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Press Association, Associated Press (AP) Best Newscast 1st Place, and 2nd Place. He's also received AP Awards for spot news and special features.

Hightower’s career has been committed to factual, ethical, reporting for more than two decades as a broadcast journalist. He strives to report the news in the most fair and accurate manner. His sensitivity to each individual story and working well with the public are his trademarks.

He's proud to be an ambassador for RTV6 and to be able to work in his hometown and state where there are strong Midwestern values.

Rick and his wife Cathy live in the Southport area with three of their six children. One is attending college at BYU where two have already graduated.
