Kip Lewis

Sports Anchor/Reporter

6News added experience and depth to its roster with the addition of weekend sports anchor Kip Lewis.

Lewis, an experienced sportscaster and former professional athlete, came to 6News from WPIX in New York, where he served as weekend sports anchor.

Lewis received his bachelor of arts degree in communications from the University of Arizona in 1989. While there, he was a starter for the university’s NCAA Division 1 football team.

After graduation, Lewis signed as a free agent with the Detroit Lions. He then played two seasons as a starting wide receiver for the World Football League's NY/NJ Knights. Lewis went on to play one season for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League before starting a new career in sports journalism.

In 1994, Lewis began as a researcher for Fox Sports NFL. A year later he moved in front of the camera as a sports reporter for WILX-TV in Lansing, Mich.

Before heading to New York, Lewis worked as a sports anchor/reporter in some of the country’s biggest sports markets, including WLUK-TV in Green Bay, Wis., WLWT-TV in Cincinnati, WHDH-TV in Boston and as a sideline reporter for NBC Sports.

Lewis grew up with a love for sports, thanks in part to his father. Sherman Lewis was a defensive back for the New York Jets and spent more than 20 years as an NFL offensive coordinator, retiring in 2004.

When asked about joining 6News, Lewis said, "I’m looking forward to being in the Midwest and covering everything from the Colts to the Indianapolis 500."
