Raiders Land Veteran QB Garcia

POSTED: 6:21 pm EDT April 6, 2009

(Sports Network) - Veteran quarterback Jeff Garcia will return to the Bay Area, but this time as a member of the Oakland Raiders, who signed the 39-year-old signal-caller on Monday.

Garcia spent the first five years of his career in San Francisco, where he threw at least 18 touchdowns in each of his final four seasons with the 49ers.

After one-year stints in Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia, the San Jose State product went to Tampa Bay, leading the Buccaneers to the 2007 Playoffs in his first year with the club.

In an injury-ridden 2008, Garcia appeared in 12 games, passing for 2,712 yards with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions for the Bucs.

Over his 10-year career, Garcia has made four Pro Bowls while throwing for 25,537 yards and 161 TDs compared to 83 interceptions. The duel threat added 26 scores on the ground while rushing for 2,142 yards.

Garcia will serve primarily as a mentor for quarterback JaMarcus Russell, who the Raiders selected with the first overall pick in the 2007 Draft.
