Wild Visit Avs For Northwest Showdown

(Sports Network) - Two teams in the thick of a tight Northwest Division will clash tonight, as the Minnesota Wild visit the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center.

Calgary leads the division with 58 points, one more than second-place Minnesota and Vancouver. Colorado is just two points off the pace for the lead.

The Wild played the second test of a three-game road trip on Tuesday and fell to 1-1-0 on the swing after a 2-1 setback in Calgary. Brian Rolston scored the lone goal and Josh Harding made 35 saves for the Wild, who have dropped three of their last four games overall.

Rolston has lit the lamp in each of the last two games after failing to score in his previous nine contests prior to that. His 16 goals rank second on the club behind Marian Gaborik's 25.

Mark Parrish suffered a bruised foot in Monday's game versus Vancouver and did not play Tuesday. He is listed as questionable for tonight.

The Wild are 12-11-2 as the road club and had a three-game road winning streak halted on Tuesday. Minnesota will host Anaheim in its first game after the All-Star break on Wednesday.

Colorado is currently playing a five-game homestand that concludes on Wednesday against Chicago. The Avalanche are 1-1-1 thus far on the residency after Tuesday's 4-0 loss versus Nashville. The Predators' Dan Ellis stopped 38 shots to blank Colorado.

Jose Theodore, making his ninth consecutive start, allowed all four goals on 29 shots for the Avalanche, who lost in regulation for the first time since January 9th (4-1-1).

Theodore is now 5-3-1 in his last nine games with a shutout and 12-11-2 with 2.51 goals-against average in 25 games this season.

Colorado has netted just four goals in three games since center Paul Stastny (appendectomy) joined Joe Sakic (hernia surgery) and Ryan Smyth (broken right ankle) on injured reserve.

However, defenseman Jordan Leopold did return on Tuesday after missing two games due to illness.

Colorado has dropped five of its last seven at home, falling to 17-7-1 at the Pepsi Center this year.

These two clubs have split four meetings so far this year, with each team winning a pair of games on home ice. Minnesota has lost three straight in Colorado.
