Blues Sign Bernier To Offer Sheet

POSTED: 7:08 pm EDT July 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - The St. Louis Blues signed free agent forward Steve Bernier Tuesday to an offer sheet worth $2.5 million for next season.

Bernier spent last season with the Sharks and Sabres, tallying 16 goals and 32 points in 76 games. He was dealt from Buffalo to Vancouver last Friday for a third-round pick in 2009 and a second-round choice in 2010.

The 23-year-old Quebec native is a Group II free agent, which means the Canucks have seven days to match the offer or receive the Blues' second-round draft selection in 2009.

Over a three-year NHL career with San Jose and Buffalo, Bernier has recorded 45 goals and 90 points in 177 games.
