The third and final installment of the "Matrix" trilogy opened worldwide simultaneously at 6 a.m. Wednesday and hundreds of fans stood in line for hours outside the Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, Calif., waiting to catch the first showing of "The Matrix Revolutions."

The sequel to the original "Matrix" movie was released earlier this year and fans only had to wait a few months for the third installment to be unveiled Wednesday.

"We're from San Diego," one couple who braved the cold weather Tuesday night as they camped outside the Grauman's Chinese Theater told Los Angeles station KNBC. "We got here around 1 a.m. Wednesday and have been camped out ever since."

"We're just excited for the final movie of the trilogy," another fan said. "We're hoping it will be as good as the first two."

Warner Bros. Prictures, the movie distributor, said the final chapter of the trilogy was released at "zero hour" worldwide, the exact same time in every major city around the world. The highly anticipated film opened at 6 a.m. in Los Angeles; 9 a.m. in New York; 2 a.m. in London; 5 p.m. in Moscow; and 11 p.m. in Tokyo.
