INDIANAPOLIS -- On the eve of Tuesday's election, both U.S. Rep. Julia Carson and challenger Eric Dickerson were predicting victory in their battle for Indiana's 7th Congressional District seat, 6News' Jack Rinehart reported. The race in the district, which includes much of Indianapolis, has appeared to be tight in recent weeks. Carson, a Democrat seeking a sixth term, will have spent $250,000 during this campaign -- $100,000 more than her last campaign.

Carson spent Monday encouraging campaign workers and focusing on efforts to get out the vote."I never get nervous. I just keep my eye on the prize and keep on trucking," Carson said.Dickerson, a former Marine pilot and auto dealer, said he has traveled 8,000 miles over eight months in the district, trying to unseat Carson."For a small district like that, to just keep going back and forth and back and forth, we've met a whole lot of people," Dickerson, a Republican, said. "I've got a whole lot of encouragement, and that's why I'm feeling very, very good about the outcome tomorrow night."The battle between Carson and Dickerson comes as Democrats try to gain at least 15 seats nationwide to take control of the U.S. House. Democrats hope to knock off some Republican incumbents in Indiana, and the national parties and outside groups have spent millions of dollars on those races, but a Dickerson victory would dent any gain the Democrats make.
