INDIANAPOLIS -- Presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton will visit more than one Indiana community on Thursday, five days after her rival for the Democratic nomination makes a campaign stop in Plainfield, her campaign said.Details of Clinton's trip will be announced "in the coming days," her campaign said in a news release.Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., plans to attend what his campaign called a town hall meeting in the gymnasium of Plainfield High School on Saturday afternoon. Tickets for that event, which will feature an Obama speech at 2:20 p.m., were snatched up less than 90 minutes after they were made available Thursday.
Obama's event will be carried live on TheIndyChannel.com; on WRTV's digital channel, 6.2; and on 6News 24/7, which can be found on Brighthouse cable channel 164, Comcast cable channel 247, and Insight cable channel 64.Clinton, D-N.Y., and Obama are beginning to take interest in Indiana's May 6 primary and the state's 72 delegates because the candidates still are locked in a tight race two months after this year's Democratic primaries began.Because many states hold primaries before May, presidential nominations often are wrapped up before Hoosiers get to vote. But because of this year's tight race, this is the first time in 40 years that Indiana's Democratic presidential primary has had the opportunity to matter.According to an Associated Press count, Obama has 1,598 delegates, including separately chosen party and elected officials known as superdelegates. Clinton has 1,487, according to the AP. It takes 2,025 delegates to secure the Democratic nomination for president.Stay with 6News and TheIndyChannel.com for updates.
